Job Summary

KDCI Outsourcing is seeking a Graduate Power System Engineer to support electrical engineering projects across generation, high-voltage transmission, distribution, grid connections, and power systems. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the role supports power system studies, technical design, project planning, site activities, and consulting work while developing practical engineering expertise and progressing toward Professional Engineer registration.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical Engineering & Power Systems

  • Support the enquiry, application, and registration processes for energy projects, including HV grid connections, substation design, and generating plant power systems.

  • Assist in performing power system studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Hypersim under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Participate in site inspections alongside senior engineers, assisting with data collection and report preparation.

  • Assist in planning and scheduling departmental tasks to ensure work aligns with project timelines and objectives.

  • Support the review of designs for compliance with relevant Australian Standards, statutory requirements, and client specifications.

  • Apply the Quality Management System (QMS) to assigned tasks and identify and report opportunities for improvement.

  • Contribute to the development of cost-effective engineering solutions through research and analysis.

  • Provide technical support to the engineering team while learning from senior staff and contributing to project execution.

  • Support Senior Engineers in managing electrical engineering tasks to meet time, cost, and quality requirements.

  • Assist in developing and managing project plans and resource allocation.

Consulting & Business Development

  • Undertake billable consulting work within Electrical Engineering, including the fields of generation, high-voltage transmission, and distribution.

  • Assist management in developing team capabilities across owner- and developer-side work for generation, high-voltage transmission, and distribution projects.

  • Participate in a collaborative culture within the business and provide guidance to junior engineering, drafting, and technician personnel where appropriate.

  • Support management in pursuing new project opportunities, including preparing tender submissions and proposals with assistance from other staff as required.

  • Support the business in winning work and exploring new project opportunities and clients.

Team Support & Engagement

  • Provide general project administration support to teams.

  • Actively participate in team meetings and company initiatives.

  • Maintain and develop professional knowledge in project administration.

  • Collaborate effectively with engineering and project teams to support successful project delivery.

Professional Development & Continuous Improvement

Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Progression toward registration as a Professional Engineer.

  • Strong HSEQ focus with a commitment to teamwork, learning, project delivery, and achieving results.

  • Strong focus on commercial performance and customer satisfaction.

  • Sound written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders.

  • Solid understanding of different Network Service Provider (NSP) standards and construction practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment.

  • Ability and willingness to undertake national travel and work away from home based on project demands.

  • Ability to work in both office and field-based environments depending on project requirements.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet business and customer requirements.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to or experience with power system analysis tools, including PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Hypersim in RMS and EMT environments, is an advantage.
